Great live-action steamers, electrics, diesels, and interurbans

I Love Big Trains 1Two giant steam locomotives in action at the Illinois Railway Museum, the 2-10-0 Frisco 1630 Decapod and a Shay, plus the Nebraska Zephyr, a sleek articulated streamlined passenger train headed by an E5 diesel. We'll take a trip to France, Spain and Portugal to see their unique passenger services. We also visit the Indiana Harbor Belt and see how a classification yard and hump yard work, and one of the last operating turntables used on the U.S. railroads today.

I Love Big Trains 2The last operating articulated steam locomotive in the world, Union Pacific's 3985 Challenger, comes roaring through the Midwest. See what it's like to be an engineer on a freight train when we hitch a ride with the South Shore Line. We'll also ride in the caboose. We'll visit renown railroad artist Mitch Markovitz, who'll show us how he painted the cover for the Part 2 video. Plus we'll show some of the old signals that are long gone from today's railroads.

I Love Big Trains 3. We visit South Shore again, this time with their passenger service, the last operating interurban railroad in the U.S. We check in with Doyle McCormick, an expert on steam locomotives who headed the restoration of the legendary 4449 Southern Pacific Daylight. Then North to Alaska, where the scenery is breathtaking and the best way to see it is from a train. All aboard for a highballin ride on the rails. Part 3 is only available on this DVD.
