Les JarrettYour conductor for this part of your web journey is Les Jarrett, owner of Railway Productions. Les has been a railfan (even though he didn't know it) since he was a baby.

Born in Independence, Kansas, he spent his early years living a block from the Santa Fe depot. Many summer evenings (and some mornings), his parents would take him over to the depot to see the Santa Fe's "Tulsan" or "Oil City Flyer" make their station stops. Although the route is now part of a shortline, and no longer a through route, Les can still hear the sound of the F Units chanting in his mind today.

Other memories include being invited up into the cab of a Great Northern F unit at Duluth (Minnesota) Union Station, riding New York Central and Penn Central passenger trains into New York City, and rides on Amtrak during its early days. Of course a major happening was being bitten by the steam bug while riding the Cumbres & Toltec in 1972.

Les spent 8 years as a working TV news photographer and editor before deciding to devote his full energies to Railway Productions. Les is a member of the National Press Photographers Association, and the International Television Association, and has won Associated Press and United Press International awards.

In 1997, Les (and co-producer Greg Scholl) were awarded the "Award of Distinction" in the video industry "Videography Awards" for the "America By Rail" series.Les Jarrett Les enjoys living his dream of combining his love of trains and travel with owning his own business. And he knows that he couldn't be doing this without the help of his many loyal customers who have purchased video programs over the years.
